There’s nothing more disappointing than working hard on a manicure for it to chipping just days later! We’ve compiled 5 ways to prolong your manicure and keep it from chipping:
1) Re-apply a top coat every 1-2 days.
Make sure you wash your hands, then apply a top coat to your manicure. Applying an additional top coat every 1-2 days keeps the polish sealed and strong. Make sure you allow enough time for your top coat to dry. I like to apply it in the morning while the hubs and I are sipping coffee. I know I’ll be there for a while not needing to use my hands.
2) Wear gloves. Always.
This is the best preventative measure for chipped nails. Wear gloves for all cleaning activities, including dishes. I use just a regular pair of rubber gloves (a different pair for each chore). Also wear gloves while chopping food. This is a good way to keep odors out of your hands too. For cooking, I use these disposable nitrile gloves.
3) Don’t soak your hands.
This one is hard for me to follow in the summer since I try to spend as much time as possible in the pool. But remembering to keep your manicure out of the water as much as possible during a swim or soak will will help prolong your manicure.
4) Wipe off moisturizer.
Soft and smooth hands gives your home manicure a HighEnd look. However, moisturizer can dull the shine and even cloud some polishes. After applying moisturizer, take care to wipe off your nails with a cotton ball or tissues to keep residue from building up and weakening the manicure.
