The last step in preparing for a successful Whole30 is keeping right mindset. Embarking on this 30 day adventure is going to come with it’s struggles. Keeping your eyes on the goal is going to be more important than ever. Why are you doing this? Keep that in mind and follow these 3 tips for a positive mindset.
Awareness:
Being self aware that you are going to struggle, you are going to crave sweets and comfort foods. This is a fact. So accept it. Don’t get discouraged when on week 3 you are still craving mac n’ cheese when your boss yells at you. Our food habits have been built and sustained for years, the growing process is going to take time. But the journey to food freedom is well worth it.
Reward and Comfort Yourself:
No, not with food. With other items. Before you begin your round, make a list of your favorite rewards and comforts that are not food related. Here’s my personal list of Rewards and Comforts:
7 non-food Ways to Reward and Comfort Yourself
- Take a Bubble Bath
- Watch your Favorite Movie
- Schedule or Give yourself a Massage
- Spend time Crafting (or your way of being Creative)
- Drink a cup of Tea
- Take a Nap
- Take a Walk (to observe nature, not for exercise)
When you stay strong through an intense craving, have a bad work day, or a relationship communication breakdown (we don’t call them fights, lol), refer back to the list you made. Take the time to reward and comfort yourself. Neglecting to do so will only make your cravings and desire for comfort food stronger. Take these chances to rewire what your brain will crave in these moments.
Support:
One of the best ways to keep a positive mindset during your Whole30 is finding positive support. I am beyond thankful that Jared is as dedicated (if not more) to sticking to a strict Whole30 round. We’re able to support each other when our cravings try to take over. If your family isn’t completing a round with you, reach out to friends who can be your support buddy even if they aren’t on a round themselves. Educate them on what you can and cannot eat so they will be full of suggestions in your weak moments.
Always remember you are worth this hard work. You deserve to be taken care of, by yourself. Let me know how your Whole30 goes and any tips or tricks that help you!
